This story is about…

Female Entrepreneur: Emilie Conroy

Motivation for starting her business: Getting hit with a chronic and permanent illness drove me to reconsider the track of my life. As my disability prevented me from working for anyone else, I decided to go to work for myself.

Tell us about your business…

My business is me and I am my business. I am what unifies my creative projects, from freelance writing to translation to graphic and web design.

What is a day in the life of you like?

In any given day, the bulk of my work is taking place in my head, so I can have a very good day with nothing physical to show for it.

What have been your biggest challenges so far with running your business?

I’ve had to learn by doing that I just can’t take on all of the projects I might want to do.

What advice would you give to other business owners?

The only way to fail is to quit. Therefore, don’t quit!

How do you keep motivated through difficult times?

I keep involved in various outside activities, such as volunteering with shelter animals.

What’s your favourite quote?

“Argue for your limitations, and sure

enough they’re yours.”

{Richard Bach}

Who inspires you?

Of all possible people, Coco Chanel has always been my inspiration. She worked so terribly hard against a male-oriented society in order to make her vision a reality.

Do you have a business philosophy?

Keep learning!
