Video marketing is so powerful and I know from firsthand experience… in 2005 I set up an online mobile phone unlocking business and in 2008 I came up with the idea to ask customers to send in video testimonials about our service, because I’d heard that video marketing was the way forward. If I’m being honest, I didn’t really think it would work! But nevertheless, I decided to try it anyway.
So, about 3 days after a customer had placed an order we emailed them a friendly email asking them if they’d like to send us in a video testimonial if they loved our service. It wasn’t long before we received our first video testimonial and I can’t tell you how much it made me smile! I’d already set up my YouTube account (I had absolutely no idea what I was doing by the way) and so I saved the video to my computer and uploaded it to YouTube.
I used specific keywords in the title, the description and the tags to make sure our videos came up top on YouTube and Google – for example, one video I titled, “UNLOCK NOKIA 5800 XpressMusic locked to T-Mobile” and made sure the keywords were in the description too – that video alone has had over 239,000 views. Not only were our videos appearing in the search on YouTube, they were appearing on the first page of Google too!
So, I decided to create a promo code, so I could track the number of sales we were getting as a direct result of YouTube. I added a comment box to the videos to say, “get 20% off your unlock code when you enter “YOUTUBE””.
Those videos have had over half a million views! YouTube generated so many sales for us, I couldn’t believe it.
The best thing is that YouTube is far more advanced now – you can now include links in your video, which is amazing! If I can do all this with no knowledge of YouTube or video marketing then I think anyone can! And you don’t just have to upload video testimonials, you can use all different types of videos!
Video marketing really is powerful, because it’s so much more engaging. You can build authority and trust much faster.
