What motivated & inspired you to start your business?

I had a great job in PR and marketing for a German sports clothing brand, but when I had my second child, I realised I needed to start my own business so I could run my own life.

What steps did you take to get things going in the beginning?

At first it was really organic. I started by calling and speaking to everyone I already knew and told them what I was planning to do. I managed to grow things by talking to people and being my normal, honest self. I love what I do, so my passion does show through when I talk to people.

What has been the most effective way of raising awareness of your business and getting new customers?

The best way is to do a great job for people – then you get recommended. I have also found networking really valuable for making good contacts. Start with what you know. I started my business in equestrian which I knew really well and expanded from there.

What challenges have you faced and how did you overcome them?

Finances are a huge obstacle but I always find a way to carry on. At first I undervalued myself and didn’t charge enough. I’m better now! I think the biggest thing for me is that as a mum, I have 3 little people to provide for and I am always motivated because of them. I love my job so much; I don’t feel like I go to work each day. I am blessed.

Can you tell us about any habits you have/things you do, which set up success every day?

I always plan for the next day on the previous day. Before work, I visualize my main tasks so that I am clear about what I need to focus on. Often I do 10 minutes of Yoga before I start work in order to be relaxed and focused for my day.

What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs?

If you love something, go for it. If a business does not work the first time, it might work in the future or you might need to alter something. My first business was a super idea but was never going to be profitable, so I did something else. Just carry on!

When I face a big challenge, I…

divide it into smaller chunks and complete one at a time.

The most courageous thing I’ve ever done as an entrepreneur is…

start my own business

If I could go back in time to when I started my business I would tell myself…

to charge more!

The best piece of advice I’ver ever been given is…

never assume…always check everything!

My favourite business tool/resource/book/podcast is…

a book by Laura Vanderkam – I know How She Does It

My favourite quote is…

“Hustle with Heart.”
