Back in 2011, I became really obsessed with trying to figure out how I could create more success in my life, so I started digging into what super successful people did that I wasn’t doing, so that I could mimic them. I started to realise that there’s a few simple but incredibly profound habits that all successful people seem to share.
I got really focused, intentional and determined, and started doing the same. It blows my mind how radically different and successful my life has been since then, and integrating these easy habits into my life played a massive part in this. So here they are, these 5 habits could help you create so much incredible success in your life:
Focus on the major things not the minor things
So many people seem to mistake movement for achievement and end up just frantically doing “busy” work, but feeling so stuck and wondering why they’re not making progress. The problem is that a lot of us focus 80% of our time on the minor stuff, rather than the major stuff that’s actually going to move the needle. One of the best things you can do to avoid falling into this trap is to track your activity. Make a list of all the things that you’re working on throughout an average day and then go over that list and decide whether each one is a major or minor task. For example, a minor task would be replying to emails or creating a graphic, whereas a major task would include focusing on vision and strategy, or working on moving projects forward. Over the course of a week, identify how much time you’re spending on the major stuff and the minor stuff, then set yourself a challenge for the following seven days to focus 80% of your time on the major things you know are going to have an impact on your business. This will help you create so much more momentum.
Manage your self-discipline
At the heart of success is self-discipline! 99.9% of people out there are not really willing to do what it takes to create success because it’s hard work. If it were easy, everyone would be successful! Success requires us to go so far out of our comfort zone, to do things that terrify us and challenge us and require so much from us. And to do that, we have to be ridiculously disciplined. So the question is, how disciplined are you being in pursuit of your dreams and your business? Are you really dedicating enough time to focusing on the things you need to do? A favourite quote of mine says, “Successful people hang on when everyone else has let go”, and that always made me think that if I had enough discipline to just hang on, even when all I want to do is quit, I’d be able to create success and the same goes for you! Manage your self-discipline and the results will start appearing fast!
Go all in, every day
Your work literally costs you a piece of your life, so how seriously are you taking it? Are you just dancing around the edges of being great and being the person you could be? Or are you 100% committed and going all in to really create the success you want to create? The majority of people just teeter on the edge of their potential, but if you want to create success, you have to be 100% committed, every single day! From a psychological aspect, when you go all in on something and there’s no question that it’s what you’re fully committed to, it changes everything, and things start to happen that you had never foreseen happening before.
Be really alert to things that are stealing your time
From the world’s most successful billionaires to anyone with a full time job or family, we all have the same 24 hours every single day, so you have to be really mindful of what’s taking up your time and whether it’s in fact a good use of it or is just hindering your progress. Just be aware on a day-to-day basis of where your focus is going – this will help you create so much more success. Get ruthless with your time, focus on the right activities and use your time wisely.
Get your ideas, goals, dreams and plans down on paper
It’s so great to keep an ongoing book list and there are so many amazing books out there that can really help you to grow yourself and your business. Create this list so that you can get really intentional about reading each one and so that you can check them off the list and keep track of your progress. Get excited about making your way through that list, learning so much and becoming an even better entrepreneur.
I hope you find these simple, but incredibly powerful habits useful and that they’ll help you create incredible success.
