As entrepreneurs it’s so easy for us to get caught up in it all and feel stressed about everything we’ve got going on. All the big dreams we’d like to achieve, all the things we need to learn and manage, all the challenges that come up… the list goes on.
It may come as a surprise (and a shock) to some people to know that stress is actually a choice. It’s completely up to us whether we choose to feel stressed or not and it all comes down to our response and emotional reaction to any situation or challenge. The choice is completely within our control.
In his book, Man’s Search For Meaning, the amazing Viktor Frankl said, “Everything in life can be taken away from you except how you chose to respond”. So when you are experiencing something challenging, CHOOSE how you respond, and make sure you do so in a way that will help you to move forward, not hold you back.
Of course, I’ve often dealt with stress myself, but a simple perspective change helps me transform the way I respond to challenges. So, in this week’s video, I want to share with you the 3 strategies that help me shift my perspective whenever I feel stress looming, and help me to respond to challenges in a positive, constructive way.

Here are the strategies I use to help me change my perspective when stress creeps in:
Always keep in mind that stress is not real, it’s something we make up in our minds as a response to a situation we’re experiencing. The way we respond to things happening around us can affect us so much and you can choose to not let it affect you negatively.
As entrepreneurs it’s easy to get really stressed out by everything we’re trying to achieve, but just remember you don’t have to feel this way. When you’re feeling overwhelmed and anxious, let go of any negative thoughts and emotions that might be filling your head, and you will be able to completely change your perspective and approach to the situation. Choose how you are going to respond in a way that will help you move forward, not in a way that will hold you back.
Stress arises from issues external to ourselves. Perhaps something has gone wrong, challenges are coming up fast or you can barely keep up with your workload. Whatever it may be, we get so overwhelmed and stressed by it because we get caught up in it. So, force yourself to take a step back and get a bird’s eye view of what is really going on, so you can remove yourself from the situation that’s happening. Just focus on changing your perspective on the situation – I promise you’ll feel so much better and it will help you understand things more, grow as a person and learn from the experience itself.
Once you’ve taken a good look at the situation that’s stressing you out and you’ve changed your perspective, attach another emotion to it that is not stress. Take back that power and choose a positive or empowering emotion that will propel you forward instead. If you’ve made a mistake, promise yourself to do anything you can to learn as much as you can from that situation. If you’re about to give a speech to a large audience and it’s causing you to feel overwhelmed, focus on a positive outcome, hear the applause and cheers in your mind. Switch it up and connect with that positive emotion instead. The emotion you attach to a situation is completely up to you, so choose a positive, constructive emotion that will have a better impact on your wellbeing, your life and your business.
