In just 3 minutes this inspiring video teaches us something profound about the true nature of success and failure.
At the end of the race, why did 65000 people cheer for a man who clearly lost? I believe they cheered because Derek pulled through when it counted the most – when everything was stacked against him and it would have “made more sense” to give up.
His example shows us how the pursuit of success is not really about being the first to cross the finish line. It’s about crossing the finish line period – whether you’re first, second, third, or last. It’s about never ever giving up.
It’s about doing our personal best no matter how slow our progress may be or how many setbacks we face – even if we have to put our arm around someone else for support as we limp our way forward. In the end, Derek won the real race – the race against fear and failure and ourselves.
And as Derek’s story proves, the beautiful part about it all is that when we always do our best, our setbacks only magnify our victory.
