“The journey of a thousands miles begins with a single step.”
I recently found a diary that I kept back in 2009. In it I wrote all my big ideas and then in the pages that followed were frustration, confusion and misery, because nothing was happening! I wasn’t making any progress and it was driving me crazy!
Looking back now it’s so obvious why nothing was happening… I was doing all the wrong things! Although if I’m being honest, I knew back then that I was doing things wrong, I wrote, “I think the reason why I’m not making any progress and feel miserable is because I’m procrastinating, so I’m going to make a plan and stick to it.” I was procrastinating, because I was so indecisive about what I was doing and then I’d write down that I was going to make a plan, but I wouldn’t actually do it, because I didn’t even know where to begin.
The problem was that I had these HUGE ideas that I was trying to turn into a reality (which is great), but instead of taking the next step I could, I was trying to tackle the whole idea in one go! As a result I would often feel overwhelmed and then I would start thinking things like, “maybe I should do it this way” or “maybe it would be better like that.” I was consumed with indecision and over thinking. I desperately wanted to start achieving amazing things, but I just felt like I was stuck in mud.
I think so often we come up with big, amazing ideas and then we worry and consume ourselves with how we’re going to do step 70, 80 and 90 we forget to take step one.
Lao Tzu said, “The journey of a thousands miles begins with a single step.” and it’s true – turning our big ideas into a reality is a journey and we have to start at the beginning and we’ll get there step by step.
However, in 2011 I discovered some powerful strategies which helped me go from making hardly any progress to achieving amazing things! These are powerful steps you can take to help you make progress towards reaching your goals.
