How To Live The Life You Want: Part Two

In last week’s video I was talking about the 2 things I believe are essential for achieving amazing things and living a successful life. When I applied them to my life everything changed!

Last week I was talking about how important it is to know what you want – and when I say that, I don’t mean knowing what car you want etc. (although that’s not a bad thing!) I mean what you actually want to achieve in life and knowing why you want to achieve it. Most people drift aimlessly and then wake up one day and wonder how they ended up there – it’s because they didn’t really think about where they wanted to be! You can watch that video here.

This week I want to talk about the second really important thing that will change your life! This one thing totally changed mine. It’s this…

YOUR ATTITUDE.

Your attitude is everything. How you think, how you respond, how you act really are crucial in how far you will get in life. Are you programmed for success or are you programmed for failure?

Most people are programmed for failure – I used to be! When I was, I ended up going round and round in circles, never really achieving what I wanted.

Here’s a good example of a mind programmed for failure…

Have you ever come up with a brilliant idea that filled you with excitement and then a day or so later you started to think, ‘I can’t do this’, ‘I don’t have the time’, ‘I don’t have the money’, ‘I don’t have the expertise’, ‘I don’t have a team of people to help me.’ – and so the idea that once filled you with excitement now fills you with dread as you realise all the problems, all the things you can’t do, all the struggles and so you give up on it.

I have done this more times than I care to admit. We all do. The thing is, that kind of self-talk equals a mind/attitude programmed for failure. That attitude will get you nowhere!

A couple of years ago my mindset was just like that. I’d focus on all the things I couldn’t do, I’d focus on all the things I didn’t have and it dragged me down. Too many people do this and it stops them from achieving amazing things.

I once read a quote by Anthony Robbins and it changed everything for me. He said,

“Your destiny is determined by the choices you make. Choose now. Choose well.”

Think about that. It means that your success is determined by the choices you make and your choices are determined by the thoughts you’re thinking, the frame of mind you’re in; your attitude.

When I read that quote I realised I had to change. It has been the best thing I ever did.

Instead of seeing problems I looked for the opportunities. I asked myself, “what can I do today to get me closer to where I need to be?” I made the decision/effort to go to events that I thought would help me, no matter how inconvenient it was to get to them. I decided to start believing in myself – I’d given myself such a hard time for so long and it wasn’t helping me, so I stopped it. Every time the negative thoughts, the doubts, the worries would creep into my head I immediately stopped thinking about it and forced myself to think of something else. I allowed myself to let go of the worries and I remember thinking, “This is my life, it’s an adventure and I’m going to enjoy it and do the best I can do and be the best I can be.”

Once I changed my attitude I felt free, I felt like I’d removed the barriers and all of sudden everything seemed possible. If I didn’t know how to do something, I’d figure it out instead of letting it stop me. If I didn’t have the money, I’d think about what I could do right now, instead of giving up. I had a new found determination and belief that I was going to make it happen.

When I look back on what I’ve achieved since I changed my attitude it makes me realise just what’s possible when you believe and back yourself, instead of placing limitations in the way.

I have to admit that it’s not always easy. I don’t think the doubts, the worries or the negative thoughts ever completely go (I think that would be super human!) I do however think that if you have the right attitude you can lift yourself over those thoughts and feelings and push on.

It’s honestly amazing what you can achieve when you have the right attitude.
