On this episode, I am so excited to share Bushra Azhar with you. Her story is nothing short of amazing, but her sense of humor is what will keep you smiling as she inspires us all on taking action, continually raising the bar, and overcoming adversity. Bushra built a business called The Persuasion Revolution to teach people how to use persuasion in their entrepreneurial journey, taking her from “a bloody nobody” to making over 1.5 million in revenue.

EVERYONE STARTS SOMEWHERE

Bushra was inspired not by something necessarily inspirational but was working in Corporate Consulting in Saudi Arabia. Knowing almost nobody in the entrepreneurship arena, she decided to start an online business as a bet with herself as she heard working online was the new way to go.  Putting this “online thing” to the test, Bushra didn’t tell a single soul when she started (not even her husband) as where she grew up online business meant selling scantily clad photo’s of yourself. Wanting to build something successful and explainable, she kept it under wraps at first.

Testing her platform and building an initial audience via guest blogging (with absolutely no credentials), people started contacting her for services. Throwing together some offerings, Bushra made her first $500 dollars online. After a comical discussion with her husband on where the money came from, she outted her business ventures to her husband and found that first paycheck to be life changing motivation. Not because of the money, but because of what it validated- that she could actually make money online.

BUSHRA’S KEY METHODS FOR BUSINESS GROWTH

As someone who loved teaching, she was still very self conscious with mental blocks keeping her from starting her program at first. Having a distinct look and a specific accent, she wasn’t sure how she would be received online. She made the jump in 2014, collaborating with a graphic designer to create a smaller priced program offering. The results? They sold 320 packages in just 2 weeks.

Since then, Bushra has turned into a self proclaimed “launch whore”. She launches a new offering ranging in price every other month which has allowed her to grow very quickly. She credits starting with low ticket items as fueling her growth in the first year as it builds credibility and helps build your list of buyers and ambassadors for your brand which fuels engagement.

Getting a previous buyer to turn into a repeat buyer is much easier than convincing a new person to buy a high ticket item out of the blue. It’s also a way to test if your content is actually serving your audience.

TIPS ON USING PERSUASION METHODS IN YOUR BUSINESS

Bushra has created a course called the Mass Persuasion Method.  “ The human brain is like an electric circuit. If you want to spark attention, you need to activate 8 different brain circuit switches.” As your buyer is often not in person, you aren’t able to gauge what kind of persuasion they need, which is why Bushra recommends you cover all bases. Two important methods in persuasion that she shared are:

Relatability

The person must relate to you. Perfection isn’t relatable and actually hurts you.

Believability

You must position yourself and your product for believability. People must believe in your ability to teach and lead just as much as they believe in their ability to learn from you.

OVERCOMING ADVERSITY

One shocking thing Bushra was not expecting in entrepreneurship is the extent to which people can be mean to one another online. Even with massive success, Bushra hasn’t been a stranger to her fair share of “haters” online- picking apart things from her looks to general insults, this was part of the journey that surprised her. To overcome this, she credits having a sense of humor and letting it go.

To be unstoppable in the pursuit of her entrepreneurial dreams, Bushra credits continually raising the bar as she has grown to help her stay on track. There is no one goal or monetary goal for her, rather, she measures her success by her contributions to charity. Having 10% of revenue going to educating street children and the thought of raising and impacting those causes is what keeps her motivated. Starting from donating $1,000 her or there to Donating over 6 figures now is how she measures her success. The high from proving to herself and the challenge that she can actually do it is motivation enough.
