Visualisation is a powerful tool we can all use, however it’s something that many people don’t do. In fact, it’s easy to go for weeks and weeks without thinking much about your goals – life gets in the way and we end up focusing all of our attention on daily issues, problems and challenges we need to overcome and often this can end up making us feel stuck and frustrated. Not a great frame of mind to be in when building a business.

So, making time to do visualisation techniques can really help you to make sure this doesn’t happen!

There has been so much research done into the power of visualisation. It’s commonly known that top athletes and successful people use visualisation technique on a regular basis… because it actually works! It helps them to get closer towards achieving their goals.

Why does it actually work? I think John Assaraf puts it really well:

“Visualize an outcome you want over and over again to build ‘cells of recognition’ in your memory bank.

First: you become consciously and acutely aware of everything that can help you achieve the visualized outcome that you desire. You quickly scan over anything that is not in tune with that image.

When you continuously focus on an image in your mind, every cell in your body is involved in that image and you vibrate and resonate with everything that is in harmony with that frequency both on a physical and non-physical level. This frequency moves you towards, and moves everything that is needed towards you, for the manifestation of the desired image.

Second: you impress an idea into the subconscious part of you, it eventually becomes ‘fixed’ and you automatically attract and move towards that which you desire.

The reason athletes practice visualization is because they want to condition their mind in such a way that the body automatically behaves the way they want it to without effort. It is the only way to become ‘unconsciously competent’.

The same is true for highly successful people. If they visualize the success they want over and over again, eventually their bodies will automatically do whatever it must to make the image a physical reality.

The outside world is a mirror image of the inside and hidden mental world. Unfortunately, very few people have really taken the time to learn this side of their personality. And that is unfortunate because this is the part that is so powerful.

To visualize is to direct unseen energy into an orderly vibration and that is what is needed to manifest desires of the inner self. Desires must first be created in thoughts and then they are created in ‘ real life’. Humans are the sum of what they think about and focus on most.”

So start getting into the habit of visualising achieving what you want – it’s powerful.

Tips & advice

As part of Success Month’s bundle we’ve created a visualisation you can download and listen to every day. We suggest you listen to it every morning when you wake up and every night before you go to sleep, but most importantly, listen to it when it’s right for you.

When you start to do this you may find that you don’t have the time to fit in doing visualisations. That’s exactly how I felt when I first started, but just like starting any new habit – you’ve got to make the time to do it and you’ve got to discipline yourself to do it.

Also, when you’re doing the visualisation, at first you might find it hard to switch off, you might find that your thoughts jump all over the place, you might find it difficult to actually picture what you want. This is normal, so don’t let it put you off, the more you do it, the more tuned in you’ll become.

Something that helps me is setting my intentions before I start the visualisation, so I know exactly what I want to focus on. For example, I was nominated for an award that I really wanted to win, so in the run up to the awards I focus my attention on winning the award during my visualisations. I would picture being on the stage and looking out at the audience, then I would really start to feel how I would feel on the stage. Then I would hear the words, “And the winner is Carrie Green”. I’d feel this rush of excitement and hear the crowd clapping and cheering and I focused on how I would feel. I zoned in completely on it.

Other times I’ve pictured a day in the future where I’m relaxing by a pool on holiday and I’ve reached my goals and got to where I want to be and I imagine how I’d feel to lie there, in the knowledge that I’ve done it. I really feel how I’d feel, like it’s happening right at that moment.

There are also times when I do my visualisations and my thoughts are all over the place and I struggle to focus, when this happens I just let it go and enjoy the process of relaxing.

I hope you enjoy this process.
